We don’t need to visit big cities to find good examples. In fact, closer contact with nature is the ideal setting to inspire those who want to start a more sustainable project. Ponte de Lima is an example of this and, between restaurants, hampers and hotels, we bring you 5 sustainable places to visit in the Portuguese Alto Minho region.
Travessia do Sol is a safe space for all genders, sexualities, ethnicities and social statuses. The most important thing is that you are prepared for an immersion in nature, in a space that has been thought out in detail to have the least possible impact.
At this local accommodation in Ponte de Lima, almost 50% of the vegetables and fruit come from their own organic garden, which follows permaculture principles. Guests are even invited to take part in the care of the vegetable garden, with the aim of getting them to want to grow their own crops at home.
The house is heated by solar panels and both rainwater and pool water are treated and used for the house and irrigation.

Orelha d’Elefante is a 100% vegetarian restaurant that has revolutionized the more traditional way of eating in Alto Minho. In addition to a seasonal menu made with local produce, they favor reservations so that nothing goes to waste. Desserts are a sin withouth room for sugars and refined flours. They organize workshops to spread the message that it is possible to make the delicacies served in the restaurant, at home. Villa D’Aurora Country Suites has four private suites near Ponte de Lima. It has an outdoor saltwater pool, free bikes, and a strong sustainable component: the vegetables that are served at meals come from the garden, the accommodation prefers digital to paper, and for every 100 guests a tree is planted.

Ingrediente Positivo is a farm located in Ponte de Lima.
There, organic vegetables are produced, certified by the Kiwa Sativa certification company, which controls and certifies products according to ISO/IEC 17065.
With just 1.5 hectares, they grow quality fruit and vegetables and strive to offer a good price, thus democratizing organic produce.
They prepare personalized baskets, which customers can receive at home or collect by hand (with a 10% discount).

Quinta do Ameal is the ideal place for those who like wine and adventure. In addition to visits to the vineyards and cellars and the wine tastings, you can try out a range of activities, such as guided kayak trips on the river, cycling, river trekking and walking along the Lima River eco-lane coming from Quinta do Ameal.
The path of sustainability is being taken, with the choice of eco-friendly and national amenities, more vegetarian options at breakfast, more local and organic products and less disposable items in general.
