Lego’s strategy will reward employees for contributing to the Group’s sustainability objectives as of this year.
The LEGO Group has announced that a percentage of the performance management program for employee bonuses will be linked to annual emissions from 2024. The decision is part of the company’s strategy to meet its climate objectives and reduce environmental impact in all areas of the business.
“We have an ambitious goal of reducing our emissions by 37% by 2032 and to net zero by 2050 [em comparação a 2019]. To help embed this throughout our company, I’m proud to say that we now link a percentage of colleagues’ bonuses to our annual carbon emissions. There’s still a lot to do, but this will help everyone play their part,” explains Stuart Jefford, Climate Director at the LEGO Group, in the social networks.
As part of the company’s updated performance management program, the LEGO Group has introduced a new key performance indicator (KPI) that measures carbon from the operations of factories, offices and stores (scope one and two emissions) and from business travel, a category of emissions linked to activities outside of operations (scope three emissions). This value is compared with the number of parts manufactured during the same period, in order to obtain a traceable carbon intensity metric.
The company said it intends to extend the KPI to cover Scope 3 emissions, which represent approximately 98% of the LEGO Group’s carbon footprint, as the Group progresses.
In addition to reducing emissions, the LEGO Group launched a series of other climate-related commitments last year:
