In order to prevent more products from going to waste, Auchan now reserves part of the store for everything that is nearing its sell-by date.
For safety reasons, supermarket products are removed from the shelves as soon as they expire. And consumers tend to choose those with a longer shelf life.
To combat food waste, Auchan has decided to encourage consumers to take end-of-life products home. To this end, it has created a space in its stores where only these products are to be found, clearly marked. In addition, these products are sold at a discount.
In this section you can find yogurts, salads, meals, packaged meat and fish, as well as cheese products, cold meats and groceries. Price reductions can be up to 50%.
This is one of many initiatives by the supermarket chain, which in recent years has invested in reducing waste.
This is the case with the app created to calculate food waste, or the boxes of more mature fresh produce sold at a lower price. You can see more of Auchan’s sustainability initiatives on this website.
This article promotes an action that encourages the reduction of waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling, and reuse.
