6 tips for a more sustainable Christmas
The next few weeks are going to be crazy when it comes to consumption. But we believe that Christmas is about so much more than
Owning a pet is highly rewarding; however, it can be challenging to handle the logistics of bringing them along to different places. That’s precisely why we’ve curated a delightful selection of five restaurants where these incredible companions are not just tolerated, but wholeheartedly embraced.
Orteá Vegan Collective – Lisbon
Orteá bets on vegan food and seasonal menus, but also on its own production of artisan vegetable cheeses, bread, and kombuchas.
Here the soup varies daily, the bruschettas can come with different toppings (from tomato hummus to mushrooms and roasted pumpkin), and there are several dishes – hot or raw and fresh – to choose from. For dessert you will find vegan pastries and sweets, with natural sugars and gluten-free.
Here you can read more about Peggada’s visit to Orteá.

Apuro Vegan Bar – Porto
The first vegan bar restaurant in Porto proudly upholds ethical philosophy and sustainability as its guiding principles.
Here they serve burgers, salads, toasts on naturally fermented organic bread, hot dogs, wraps, bowls, vegetable cheese board, but also craft beer, organic wine, and kombucha. The menu is 100% plant-based, using mostly local and seasonal products.
Apuro is also a cultural space, hosting book presentations, performances, conversations, and showcases.
The concept of being pet-friendly is taken to heart, with a warm welcome extended to pets and readily available water bowls provided.

Ela Canela– Lisbon
Ela Canela proudly replaces processed products, dairy items, and refined sugars with wholesome, natural ingredients. Since they work with local producers, the same ingredient can appear in several recipes to make the most of its seasonality.
The menu is created monthly and includes pancakes, naturally fermented toast, legume burger, and a wide variety of drinks, including smoothies, infusions, lattes, and craft beer.
Four-legged companions can also visit – the space is dog friendly.
Peggada has recently visited this space and tells you all about it here.

O Gambuzino – Lisbon
O Gambuzino’s menu is 100% vegan and reflects seasonality in line with the “slowfood” movement. The pickles, preserves, sauces, and marinades are self-made, and the vegetables come from Fruta Feia.
There are several “small plates” and “main dishes” to choose from, such as the burger of the week, lettuce tacos, vegetable garden fish, curry, or burrito bowl. Belgian chocolate mousse, snickers slice, panna colada, and almond cheese cake with miso caramel complete the menu.
Address: Rua dos Anjos 5A, 1150-032 Lisboa
Isco – Lisbon
This bakery is filled with bread that remains fresh for days, as if it had been freshly baked. At Isco there is room for everyone who appreciates a toasted crust, an unconventional puff pastry, and a good coffee to go with it. And there is also room for your pets, who are welcome both on the terrace and inside. There is even a bowl for drinking water, and if you become a regular, you can even count on a piece of bread from time to time.
