The year 2022 ends with good news: the hypermarket chain Continente has adopted a new bulk purchasing system that allows reusing packaging.
The food refill is available for the purchase of nuts, detergents, and animal feed, and was a result of the most common suggestions left by consumers. The products are dispensed into reusable containers with three capacities: 350 ml, 750 ml, and 1000 ml.
The detergent refill is available in 6 references of ecological and biodegradable products, some of which are Ecolabel certified, from the Greendet brand: detergent and fabric softener, all-purpose washer, multipurpose toilet and hand dishwashing detergent. At this refill station, the customer can bring his or her own package, paying only for the amount of product he or she intends to buy. You can also purchase in store, 1L containers, 100% recyclable and reuse them in future refills.
The food refill is based on a solution developed by the technology company MIWA, which ensures product control and traceability throughout the supply chain. In the equipment, products from Continente’s Dried Fruits, Organic and PET Food categories are available. These products can be dispensed into “Smart Cups”, in reusable packaging, fitted with an NFC tag that communicates with the dispenser and accommodates information about the packaging and the product that is purchased. There are 3 capacities of “Smart Cups” – 350 ml, 750 ml, and 1,000 ml. Customers can also bring their own packages.
The self-service system is already available at Colombo store, in Lisbon, and Matosinhos, in Porto.
