Ela Canela. The restaurant with no rules where nothing goes to waste
It has served meat and fish before, presented breakfasts, brunches and even dinners. It now has a vegetarian menu and serves lunch with what comes
Lisbon is throbbing every minute, with projects springing up, others reinventing themselves, and more and more ones focusing on more conscious consumption. We’ve zoomed in on the Baixa-Chiado area of Peggada’s map and bring you the best sustainable businesses you should know about:
At Kong you can find comfort food that proves that, with will and originality, flavors are not lost by swapping a traditional dish for a plant-based version.
There’s seitan bitoque and francesinha (typical Portuguese dishes), hamburgers with fries and alheira croquettes (typical Portuguese poultry sausage) and a list of desserts that will make your sugar levels rise just by reading about them.
Everything at Kong is vegan and they prioritize organic products. But there are more details that make it onto Peggada’s list of sustainable restaurants: they are true activists for the animal cause and the fight against climate change: the restaurant’s tables were made from wood and they don’t serve bottled water – even the carbonated water is filtered and served in glass bottles.
