We spoke to Lucas Oliveira, founder of Plantz, a startup that wants to show that vegetarian food is nutritious and tasty by creating ready-made meals that are delivered to your home.
They believe that healthy and sustainable food should be accessible to everyone, without compromising taste or convenience. With this conviction, they offer ready-to-eat, 100% plant-based and deep-frozen meals.
1. Present your project in one paragraph. Go for it!
Plantz is a Porto-based company specializing in plant-based frozen meals made by chefs and nutritionists. We offer a practical, tasty and sustainable solution for those looking for ready-to-eat meals delivered directly to their homes in Portugal and Spain. We have a strong commitment to helping people follow a more plant-based diet in an easy way.
2. What gap in the market does your project address?
We are bridging the gap between the convenience of ready meals and the growing demand for healthier food options. The current range of ready-to-eat meals leaves much to be desired – with excessive use of saturated fats, animal foods and preservatives/additives.
3. How is your project doing something more in the area of sustainability?
Our main point of sustainability is the simple fact of being an affordable plant-based food option (one of the most impactful choices an individual can make). But we know that we have a long way to go in other areas of the company, such as plastic packaging.
4. What are the biggest obstacles to working in this area?
One of the biggest challenges we face is the prejudice that still exists when it comes to plant-based diets. Many people are reluctant to try it, and our biggest challenge is to get them to taste it at least once.
5. What achievement are you most proud of while leading this project?
What we’re most proud of is that we’ve managed to create an efficient supply chain that allows for fast deliveries while maintaining a good product. But the main thing is every compliment / good feedback and the trust we have from our clients.
