Boom is considered, by the association that classifies this type of event, an example when it comes to sustainability.
The Boom Festival, for the eighth consecutive edition, received the “Greener Festival Award”.
The festival that takes place every year in Idanha-a-Nova, in July, and which in its last edition received 40,751 people, was distinguished due to its sustainability practices. The festival was audited and ranked according to its sustainability practices, resources used, and environmental impact. The organization put into practice concrete actions in order to reduce waste and greenhouse gas emissions, involving its participants in these actions.
During the festival, 293 EcoPontos and 238 urban solid waste containers were installed. There were 297 people in the cleaning and sanitation team.
In the winter of 2022, Boom planted 75 new trees of seven species, bringing the total to 925 trees planted and 120 shrubs at Herdade da Granja.
Greener Festival is a non-profit association, pioneering event sustainability since 2007, that independently assesses events and festivals worldwide. In addition to evaluating and awarding best practices, it also makes recommendations to the organizations of these events so that they can become more sustainable and reduce environmental impacts. According to the Greener Festival: ‘The [do Boom] team demonstrated a clear drive and determination to continue to improve, to protect the environment and strengthen positive stakeholder relations.”
The official award ceremony takes place in February 2023 in London at the 15th Green Events & Innovations Conference.
