Google Flights. Now you can choose the flight with the least environmental impact
Google Flights already lets you search for the trip of your dreams: the one that brings together an amazing place and a more sustainable flight.
Want to know more about the impact you have on the planet, but don’t know where to start? Peggada has chosen 4 free apps to help you measure your carbon footprint and find out what you can do to reduce it.
Earth Hero is an app created by a global group of volunteers who have come together to tackle the climate emergency. In the app you’ll find an extensive bank of lifestyle changes, along with explanations of how these practices effectively help to reduce emissions and take care of our planet.
Each action is classified according to its level of ambition (installing an electric water heater is “ambitious”, while switching to LED light bulbs is considered “easy”, for example) and its degree of impact, which ranges from one (using a reusable water bottle) to 100 (switching to an electric vehicle).
To identify the source of your carbon emissions, you have to fill in a short survey and then choose your emission reduction targets, based on relative global averages and the scientific recommendations of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
What’s more, you can connect with other people so that your climate actions have a multiplier effect.
AWorld is the official support platform for “ACT NOW”, the United Nations (UN) campaign to fight climate change. Through a gamification system, the app drives global education on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), promotes active citizenship and creates sustainable habits that last over time.
The aim is to help individuals, communities and organizations at every stage of the ever-evolving sustainability journey, based on three pillars:
The app also connects you to a global community of over 200,000 people so that you can join forces and share ideas.
AWorld is available for iOS andAndroid in English, Italian, Spanish, French, German, Hungarian, Croatian and Chinese.
Klima is a German app that develops a personalized strategy for anyone who wants to take immediate, transformative and long-term action on climate.
To do this, the app calculates your annual carbon footprint by asking you eight questions about your lifestyle, including how you eat, whether you have a car and how often you fly. At the end, you can see how your footprint compares with the national and global average or detail your emissions by adding more information.
But Klima doesn’t stop there. It also helps you offset the emissions you can’t avoid through a monthly or annual subscription of your choice. This amount goes towards climate projects that remove or reduce emissions on your behalf and that meet the highest international quality standards for certified carbon offsetting.
The list includes projects for planting trees, solar energy, cleaning stoves (which reduces air pollution), preventing deforestation, capturing CO2 and hydropower. All initiatives provide at least three additional benefits to local communities that align with the SDGs.
After subscribing to a plan, you can see your impact data in real time, share your climate neutrality journey with others and look for inspiration in the “Climate Class” video series.
You can recalculate your carbon footprint and/or change your carbon offset plan at any time.
The Planet App was created to help you understand sustainability and climate change.
The carbon footprint is calculated based on questions about Home, Transport, Food and Lifestyle. After the questionnaire, practical tips are suggested that match your profile – “Aware”, “Comitted”, “Sustainable” or “The Planet Hero” – and that you can add to your sustainability plan.
The app allows you to set personal goals and even compare your emissions with the world average, the average of The Planet App users and Greta Thunberg’s footprint.
In addition, the app offers a series of courses in a light and effective format, so you can learn everything you need to about sustainability.
The application can be used individually or linked to a community of users within an organization, such as a company, university or school.
The app is available for iOS andAndroidin English, Spanish, Basque and Catalan.
