Once upon a time, a mother and daughter decided to venture into the new traditional. This is how Maricota was born, a positive lesson from everything that happened!
The times we live in have forced us to stop, think, and weigh in the balance what brings us happiness, health, and harmony. To be aware of what the planet is trying to tell us every day, and also of the strength we have as a fearless and adventurous people.
Maria João, a marketing professional, and her mother Fátima, a retired food quality professional, decided to join forces and start designing what is now a bulk grocery store selling mostly national products.
They are in Matosinhos Municipal Market, an undeniable landmark of the traditional and historical center of this city. They have an organic space that favors the use of sustainable materials.
Maricota is based on four fundamental pillars:
Sustainability
National production
Bulk sales
Healthy eating
Its goal is to encourage customers to bring their own packages and to take only what they need while avoiding waste. As an alternative they use cotton bags (national production) or paper bags to buy the products.
Combining the premises of national production and healthy eating, here you can find a wide range of products such as: jams, honey, cookies, liqueurs, dried and powdered fruit, teas, chocolates, nuts, olive oils, spices, cereals, pasta, flours, etc. They also invest on the sale of bulk detergents produced with a circular economy in mind
