This footwear project is the only one in the world to reuse fire hoses and its mission goes beyond that: it helps firefighters and guarantees you boots that last for years. J-UNK was created in 2020 for this purpose and prototypes began that same year. By the end of 2021, the brand was launched on the market and in 2022 it made itself known.
Everything fits inside a J-UNK shoe: your foot, whether you’re a man or a woman, the combination of the “punk/hipster” style that results in an irreverent and at the same time aesthetically pleasing model, and also environmental (due to the new life given to the hoses and the positioning as a slow fashion brand) and social concerns.
The idea from the outset was to reuse hoses used in fires – present in the functional handle and sole – and one step led to another: donating part of the proceeds to volunteer firefighters’ associations. And the math is simple: for every pair sold, which corresponds to one meter of reused hose, €10 is donated to these heroes.
But J-UNK adds more hand-picked materials in order to have as little environmental impact as possible. The lining is in 15 days biodegradable leather and the outside of the heel area is reinforced with vegetable tanned leather (a method that uses plant extracts). Everything is made to last in your hands so that you can live up to the brand’s motto: “Buy less, but better”.
