8000kicks started with a most unusual, funny and super awesome story ever… Bernardo, the co-founder, returned to Portugal in 2017 to start a new project, but he didn’t know exactly what it would be. One night, after a few beers and joints with the boys, someone had the idea to make a smoking shoe. It was a 5 a.m. type idea, or maybe not.
Bernardo decided to take a chance, because he had seen some purses and wallets made of marijuana fibers. He asked the most unlikely person for help: Otília, his grandmother, with more than 50 years of experience in textiles.
Together, they spent over 1 year working hard with suppliers from around the world to what is now the world’s first waterproof hemp shoe, a whole new category in sustainable casual footwear.
