Emaús is a social and humanitarian NGO based in Caneças and present on four continents. Our goal is to fight the causes of poverty.
Emmaus is a decentralized movement in which each group bases its activities in its local reality. In Caneças, there are between 15 and 20 permanent companions who live in a community following the values of the movement: welcoming, sharing and working.
– We welcome without distinction of religion, culture, ethnicity, political color, any companion who needs and agrees to share community values.
– Because we can’t live looking out only for ourselves, we give to needy families free of charge; we sell basic necessities at affordable prices; we value the best products through restoration or upcycling in order to finance solidarity projects.
– We don’t accept subsidies. Through their recovery, recycling and restoration work, each companion rejected by society becomes an actor of solidarity, contributing to a more sustainable world. We work for our needs and share with those who need most.
This project actively contributes to the eradication of poverty in all its forms, everywhere. This SDG also aims to ensure that everyone has equal rights to economic resources and access to basic services.
