In 2023, he won Moda Lisboa’s Beat by Beat award, which was designed to stimulate creativity in eco-design and eco-engineering in the textile and fashion industry in Portugal. From then on, sustainability became the basis of his work. <\/p>\n

Manel Baer has just launched the Equinox collection, in which each piece in the collection is created with materials produced from algae and textile waste. “It’s a symbol of renewal, love for nature and respect for the environment,” explains Manel in a statement. <\/p>\n

At the launch of the collection, Manel, in collaboration with creative directors Marco Gomes<\/span> and Tatjana Jourdain<\/span>, made a point of bringing different worlds together. Equinox “is more than fashion, it’s a celebration of the transformative power of creativity and sustainability,” explains Manel. <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

More than just a fashion show, Equinox provided an immersive experience for the public, mixing fashion, music and performance. There was live music with musician Farwarmth (Afonso Arrepia Ferreira) at the keyboard, and a choreographed performance under the direction of Beatriz Pereira. <\/p>\n

Make-up and hair were done by the artist Noir (Rita Oliveira), who explored shapes and textures that complemented the show’s disruptive and visionary aesthetic.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

There is an important collaboration in this collection. With sustainability once again in the spotlight, Manel invited Sara Diniz to dye some of the pieces. Sara already has a well-established work in natural dyeing. Sara spoke to Peggada about the importance of making this art known: “People still associate dyeing with hippie fashion and it doesn’t have to be that way. Natural dyeing is an ode to nature”. <\/p>\n

Sara dyed eight T-shirts using onion peels, avocado peels and pits and teas – black, green, hibiscus or peony – offered by a brand because they were expired and could therefore be used.<\/p>\n
