“Junta na Freguesia” (“Gather in the Parish” a twist with “junta de freguesia”, the name for local councils in Portugal) is the name of the campaign by ERP Portugal – the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) and Waste Batteries (WB) Management Entity, which aims to mobilize and make local people aware of the importance of correctly disposing of this type of equipment accumulated at home.<\/span><\/p>\n

Citizens will be able to hand in their equipment at the collection points in the participating local councils, helping to increase the collection and recycling of this waste.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The parish that manages to collect the most equipment will be rewarded, along with the regional winners. The aim of this award is to develop a community project within two years, worth 2,500 euros, in order to promote and raise awareness of environmental education in the community. <\/span><\/p>\n

Participating parishes that are not among the winners will be entitled to monetary compensation for each ton collected since the start of the program.<\/span><\/p>\n

“We want to involve communities and carry out sustainability projects in their localities and bring the whole country together to comply with the collection of electrical and electronic equipment in Portugal. With the ‘Junta na Freguesia’ program, we’re not just talking about collections, but something bigger. We have the opportunity to train and inform more people about how we can recycle the WEEE and WB stored in our homes and show that they can be seen as important raw materials. With this project we want to meet the concept of ‘think global, act local’ and encourage the community to be part of this initiative, which will have such a big impact,” Rosa Monforte, Managing Director of ERP Portugal, said in a statement. <\/span><\/p>\n

The application form and rules are available on the <\/span>campaign website<\/span><\/a> and all the local councils in the country – more than 3,000 – can register and take part. <\/span> <\/p>\n

At the same time, ERP Portugal has launched the “Free yourself from Monsters” awareness campaign, which aims to alert people to the negative consequences of incorrectly disposing of WEEE and BR. The campaign will be amplified in the local councils participating in the “Junta na Freguesia” program. <\/span><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

She might have chosen to study Meteorology and Oceanography, but ultimately pursued Communication. And that's fine because if they don't get their weather predictions right, she wouldn't be the one to change that. She started by looking for sustainable ideas and projects for the university, and since then, she has never stopped (who stops, really?). She loves to watch tv shows, but she watches few because she is demanding.
