Decathlon has relaunched the “No Tent Left Behind”<\/a> tent return program to prevent UK festival-goers and campers from throwing away or abandoning their tents this summer after just one use. The brand offers a full refund for ten of its most popular tent models.<\/span><\/p>\n

Despite the actions of campsites and festival organizers to solve the problem, every year around 250,000 tents are left behind at festivals<\/strong> – which corresponds to around ten kilograms of tent waste per festival-goer – most of which is sent to landfills.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

When buying a tent covered by the campaign, customers must return it to Decathlon by September 13, 2024, with proof of purchase, in order to receive the purchase price back in a gift card to spend in the store, regardless of its wear and tear.<\/span><\/p>\n

The returned tents will be refurbished, cleaned and resold through Decathlon’s “Second Life” platform<\/strong>, in order to extend their useful life and reduce single-use consumption. This platform was initially launched in the UK last year for own-brand bicycles and was extended this spring to cover a range of camping and fitness equipment, including golf clubs, tennis rackets and paddle boards.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tents delivered after the date and\/or of different ranges can be bought back by Decathlon through the “Buy Back” system. <\/span><\/p>\n

The campaign follows the success of a similar pilot program launched last year, which only covered a two-person tent model.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to Chris Allen, Sustainability Director at Decathlon UK, “100% of the tents returned in 2023 were refurbished and resold through Decathlon’s Second Life program. We want to have an even greater impact and encourage our customers to choose sustainable habits while having fun. We remain committed to reducing our environmental impact and hope that our customers will be inspired to do the same.”<\/span><\/p>\n

The expansion of circular business models, such as rental services and buy-back offers, is part of Decathlon’s environmental sustainability strategy, along with increasing the repair capacity, durability and traceability of products and reducing emissions in line with verified scientific objectives.<\/span><\/p>\n

The company aims to expand its buyback offer to more than 100 types of products by 2026, facilitating the buyback of 800,000 items.<\/strong><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
