In this Journey through Climate, three teams will compete with the aim of touring the country in the most sustainable way possible, generating the greatest impact on communities. After the success of the first edition<\/a>, the<\/span>Journey through Climate<\/span><\/a> is back with some new features. In addition to the competition between the teams to see who can travel in the most sustainable way, they will also have the mission of creating the greatest positive impact on the communities. The winners will have the opportunity to travel to COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan.<\/span><\/p>\n

This year, the trip will last 14 days (instead of ten), during which three teams of four will travel through Portugal from north to south on a journey that integrates game elements into a real-life context, creating an immersive learning experience about everyday sustainable behaviors.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Departing and arriving in Cascais, the teams will take part in this journey in September and follow the route they have defined, with obligatory stops in the nine partner municipalities (a number that has also increased). Each team will receive a budget in “climates” – a fictitious currency that evaluates the sustainability of each action. The aim is to spend as few “climates” as possible. <\/span><\/p>\n

The currency will monitor all the participants’ choices throughout the competition – from transportation and food to accommodation – through four evaluation vectors: carbon dioxide emissions, time, water consumption and money (in euros). Climates are earned through performance in the challenges set by the organization. <\/span><\/p>\n

The challenges presented along the route are intended to represent experiences in climate action, from negotiations, collaboration, sharing experiences and transmitting messages, with the aim of involving society, fighting climate change and thinking about the future.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The aim is to demonstrate to the population that daily choices and lifestyle have the power to influence the course of the planet, that the path of decarbonization towards carbon neutrality is possible, necessary and inevitable, and that everyone – municipalities, companies and society – has a role to play through collective and individual climate action. <\/span><\/p>\n

In this way, the teams will help mobilize Portuguese municipalities on the path to decarbonization, while inspiring communities to adopt more sustainable practices.<\/span><\/p>\n

The initiative is organized by Get2C, as part of the Cooler World movement (a movement towards carbon neutrality), in partnership with Cascais City Council and various other entities. The teams will be recruited by Get2C in partnership with the Gap Year Portugal Association, based on the analysis of applications (form and video), individual interviews and group dynamics. <\/span><\/p>\n

The participating teams will be symbolically named “Climate Ambassadors” and will be able to present the project at national events. In addition, the winning team will have the opportunity to present the project at COP29, while the other teams will receive media exposure and access to initiatives where they will be able to talk to senior politicians, as well as other opportunities granted by the partners of this project (namely Nova SBE). <\/span><\/p>\n

In 2023, Journey through Climate received more than 100 applications and the ages within the selected teams ranged from 18 to 60. The winning team won a trip to present the project at COP28 in Dubai.<\/span><\/p>\n

Participants must be over 18 and very keen to travel and make their contribution to a more sustainable planet. She might have chosen to study Meteorology and Oceanography, but ultimately pursued Communication. And that's fine because if they don't get their weather predictions right, she wouldn't be the one to change that. She started by looking for sustainable ideas and projects for the university, and since then, she has never stopped (who stops, really?). She loves to watch tv shows, but she watches few because she is demanding. You don't need much to convince her to embrace new, \"greener\" habits and challenges.<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
