The International Day of Trees and Forests, which is celebrated on March 21, was implemented by the United Nations to mark the importance of large green spaces. Find out what planting campaigns you can be a part of. <\/strong><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Did you know that, on average, each citizen would have to plant 36 to 41 trees per year to offset their carbon footprint? Besides producing oxygen, trees capture carbon dioxide, improve the quality of the air we breathe, and keep the ecosystem balanced. <\/span><\/p>\n

The day of the Tree and the Forest is, therefore, the ideal excuse to get to work and participate in activities that celebrate green spaces. Peggada has put together this list of suggestions:<\/strong><\/p>\n

1. “Stopper the Stopper, Sow the Pickup”<\/b><\/h3>\n

With the purpose of encouraging cork recycling and contributing to reforestation in Portugal, LIPOR, in partnership with Quercus and the municipalities of Maia, Porto and Vila do Conde, is developing a door-to-door collection channel for non-residential customers (restaurants, caf\u00e9s, canteens, etc.) in these municipalities. 2. “A tree for a forest”<\/b><\/h3>\n

CTT and Quercus have once again joined forces to support the planting of native Portuguese species. The kit can be purchased at CTT physical stores or online. Then, simply register the tree and receive an invitation to be part of the next planting. Find more <\/span>here<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

3. “Billboard to Trees”<\/b><\/h3>\n

The initiative intends to replace illegal billboards, with 600 trees chosen by experts and prepared for the urban environment. The first action is being developed by DreamMedia in partnership with the Gaia City Hall and the first trees were planted at Rotunda das Guardeiras. The “Dreamcities” program will work together with municipalities to make cities greener, smarter, and more sustainable.<\/span><\/p>\n

4. “Campaign for a Greener Portugal”<\/b><\/h3>\n

In partnership with Associa\u00e7\u00e3o Plantar Uma \u00c1rvore, Zomato, the Portuguese restaurant discovery platform, will plant 40 trees for every 100 Zomato Pro subscriptions sold. Until April 22, you can participate and be part of the planting experience. Find more <\/span>aqua<\/span>

5. “One Toyota, one tree”<\/b><\/h3>\n

For every Toyota purchased, the brand plants a tree on national territory. This initiative started in 2005, in Alcanena, where the first 4 thousand trees were grown. After 20 years, there are already more than 195,000 trees planted from north to south of the country. Find more <\/span>here<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

6. “Oxygen”, <\/b>Cascais City Hall<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The program promotes the planting of native species in the Municipality of Cascais. The Sintra-Cascais Natural reforestation actions take place regularly in the Park, on a scheduled date. Find more <\/span>here<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

7. Tree-Nation<\/b><\/h3>\n

The<\/span> spanish platform<\/span><\/a> allows you to plant trees, give them away, or subscribe to a plan that enables you to offset CO2 emissions. It is available in 25 countries, including Portugal, and has plans for individual and business customers. Use your voice to be an agent of change!<\/span><\/p>\n

8. Associa\u00e7\u00e3o Plantar uma \u00e1rvore<\/strong><\/h3>\n

If you want to volunteer and get your hands in the dirt, you can sign up as a volunteer with the <\/span>Associa\u00e7\u00e3o Plantar uma \u00c1rvore<\/span><\/a> to be part of monthly events open to the public that may include field trips, workshops, and others. Also, don’t forget to check out the programs that are running in municipalities near you.<\/span><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
