Starting in 2025, companies using single-use plastics in Germany will be required to pay an annual fee, which will go into a central government-run fund. This measure contributes to the fight against pollution, while helping to alleviate the expenses of garbage collection for municipalities.<\/p>\n

The amount paid will be invested in projects to clean up public spaces such as parks and streets, a cost currently borne by the Germans. According to Environment Minister Steffi Lemke, “those who depend on putting single-use plastic on the market for their business must contribute to the costs of collection and cleanup.”<\/p>\n

Cigarette filters, consumer food packaging, and beverage containers are some items affected by the bill, which is part of a set of techniques integrated in the European Green Deal. This European agreement promotes the more sustainable use of plastic by minimizing its production, replacing it with more sustainable alternatives, collecting 90% of disposable plastic bottles by 2029, and disseminating information about the problems to the public.<\/p>\n

The German Ministry of the Environment estimates that in the first year the annual revenues of the
fund may reach 450 million euros. The fee will start to be charged on the 2nd
quarter of 2025, based on the amount of disposable plastic products sold in the previous year.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
