To help you better understand sustainability, Peggada has decoded <\/strong>some acronyms and abbreviations frequently used in the climate dialogue, creating a kind of dictionary which we hope you find useful.<\/strong><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

LCA: Life Cycle Assessment<\/strong>
It is a technique that analyzes the performance of products or processes in terms of
sustainability by assessing inputs, outputs, and associated environmental impacts.<\/p>\n

CCS\/CCS: Carbon Capture and Storage<\/strong>
A process that involves the capture of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from industrial processes, such as the burning of fossil fuels,
its transportation and storage underground.<\/p>\n

CCU: Carbon Capture and Utilization.<\/strong>
CCU is the process of capturing CO2 to be recycled for further specific use, such as creating more economically attractive products
(biofuels, plastics, jewelry, vodka, jet fuel).<\/p>\n

COP: Conference of the Parties<\/strong>
Regular (usually annual) meetings between the countries that make up the UNFCCC to discuss climate change and define national and international agreements.<\/p>\n

DAC: Direct Air Capture\/atmosphere<\/strong>
Technology capable of extracting CO2 directly from the atmosphere, using chemical reactions. Captured CO2 can be stored permanently deep underground or used in products and applications (for example in
food processing).<\/p>\n

ESG: Environmental, Social and Corporate<\/strong>
Governance <\/strong>
Indicative standards for socially conscious company behavior. On the environmental axis is the conservation of the natural world;
Social aspects include data protection, respect for human rights, and diversity; corporate governance concerns issues such as remuneration and labor laws.<\/p>\n

FSC: Forest Stewardship Council<\/strong>
Certification present on the labels of products that come from well-managed forests, meaning that the natural resources and workers involved have been respected. The responsible entity (with the same name) accompanies the entire
raw materials supply process so that consumers can make more informed purchasing decisions.<\/p>\n

GHG: Greenhouse Gases<\/strong>
Gases such as CO2, methane, carbon monoxide and nitrous oxide, which absorb part of the sun’s rays and redistribute them in the atmosphere, keep the Earth
heated.<\/p>\n

IPCC: Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change <\/strong>(Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change)<\/strong>
It is the United Nations body that evaluates scientific knowledge related to climate change, preparing evaluation reports every year.
Identifies implications, potential future risks, adaptation\/mitigation options, and points that need further investigation. It was created to help international negotiations and policy makers.<\/p>\n

NbS: Nature based Solutions<\/strong>
They are solutions inspired and supported by nature, using or imitating natural processes. These interventions are locally adapted and contribute to greater resilience against climate change, such as vegetable gardens and urban
parks, green corridors, among others.<\/p>\n

NDC: Nationally Determined<\/strong>
Contributions)<\/strong>
GHG reduction targets and commitments that each country has set for itself since the Paris Agreement. Actions and efforts are submitted every 5 years, at which time an overall assessment of progress is made.<\/p>\n

NET: Negative Emissions Technologies<\/strong>
Technological approaches and mechanisms that help remove greenhouse gases from the atmosphere, usually carbon dioxide (CDR: Carbon Dioxide Removal). These are stored in the biosphere or lithosphere (CSS) or used (CCU).<\/p>\n

SDGs: Sustainable Development Goals<\/strong>
There are 17 goals<\/a> approved by 193 UN member states that aim to solve the needs of people in developed and developing countries through a global effort.<\/p>\n

SBTi: Science Based Target Initiative<\/strong>
Initiative in which companies set goals aligned with science to combat climate change. SBTi offers tools, resources and
guidance to companies and evaluates their objectives independently.<\/p>\n

UNFCCC: United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change <\/strong>(Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change)<\/strong>
International treaty resulting from the United Nations Conference on the Environment
and Development that aims to stabilize GHG concentration at levels that avoid dangerous interference with the climate system.<\/p>\n

VCM: Voluntary Carbon Market
<\/strong>Decentralized market in which companies, NGOs, governments and individuals have the opportunity to buy and sell carbon offset credits for
nullify the harmful effect of the emissions for which they are responsible (or part of it).<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
