Andreas Noe is a German molecular biologist and an environmental activist with a passion for Portugal. But neither Andreas wants to be known as &#8220;the German in Portugal&#8221;, nor does this project boil down to one person. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thetrashtraveler.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Trash Traveler&#8221;<\/a> has the face of this man with a ukelele in his hand, but has a team of nine people who have made it possible to fulfill another madness: a bicycle trip around Portugal, generating zero waste, and designed to collect as many plastic bottles as possible from the ground.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The adventure is over, but the numbers are impressive: Andreas rode a bike so often patched for 55 days without stopping.<\/strong> He only had a bottle of water with him that he filled along the way, and it was along this same path that he collected 4599 bottles and cans from the ground.<\/p>\n<p>All the garbage collected will now be turned into art pieces that draw attention to the need to change the way we treat waste.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Along the way, more than 800 people gathered at the stopping points to collect trash or to present their sustainability projects<\/strong>in a route that started in Cascais, went through the Algarve, crossed the road Nacional 2 all the way to Serra da Estrela, passed trough the north of the country and ended in Bel\u00e9m Tower, in Lisbon.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-58b715e elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"58b715e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"image.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/peggada.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/21-768x1024.jpg\" class=\"attachment-large size-large wp-image-13044\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/peggada.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/21-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/peggada.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/21-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/peggada.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/21-1152x1536.jpg 1152w, https:\/\/peggada.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/21-1535x2048.jpg 1535w, https:\/\/peggada.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/21-scaled.jpg 1919w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section data-particle_enable=\"false\" data-particle-mobile-disabled=\"false\" class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-d247fd9 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"d247fd9\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-9c1c11b\" data-id=\"9c1c11b\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-45f7870 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"45f7870\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Nothing has been left to chance in this sustainable journey, not even means of transportation. <strong>&#8220;Rosa&#8221; (Rose) the name by which Andreas&#8217; bicycle became known, is made from parts of 14 other bicycles.<\/strong> And it endured a 2370 kilometer trip without stopping (but with a few fixes, always made by the local community, along the way).<\/p>\n<p>Raquel Fortuna Lima always traveled with Andreas and, in a van, ensured the logistical support and guaranteed the food for both of them &#8211; mostly vegan, with the exception of local cheeses and eggs &#8211; always without packaging involved. All purchases were made at bulk grocery stores, markets, fairs, and farms. Soon, this entire sustainable food roadmap will be available on the project&#8217;s website.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This action is not about &#8216;cleaning up,&#8217; but about raising awareness of our garbage problem and talking about solutions,&#8221; Andreas explains in a statement.
